Be active in their online communities. Ask for advice (people love to give it) when you want or need it. If there is a guest speaker at your school who you like and think may be helpful, ask for advice. See if there are local 4-H, Girl Scout, Scouting America (was Boy Scouts of America) or similar organizations in your area. If so, do they offer STEM activities? Is there a school, county or state science fair? If so, participate. If you are female see if there is a local Society of Women Engineers chapter in your area. If so, see about participating. If there is a college or university nearby, see about visiting some of the science/engineering faculty/graduate students/undergraduate clubs.
