What I Do

My career has always settled in the world of Life Sciences, more specifically Clinical Research. I am currently working as a Solutions Consultant for eClinical solutions. This role is also known as PreSales or Sales Engineer. Essentially, it leverages technical skills from the Industry (acquired from my previous roles, working as a Clinical Data Manager) and soft skills for delivering powerful presentations and demonstrations to customers.

Why STEM?

Since I was little, I knew I wanted to be an Engineer.  Growing up I never gave up that dream, as I was sure that any Engineering degree would give me the foundations I needed to do whatever I wanted for my future career. What I most value in the Engineer way of thinking is practical problem-solving.

School Days

When I applied to college, I had to list 5 options... and I've listed 5 engineering courses! I ended up going for my top choice as a Bioengineer, due to my affinity to Life Sciences. Where I live, the university I attended is well-known and well-ranked, so it was a privilege to study in the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (Faculty of Engineering of Porto University). After 5 years I proudly got my Masters degree and started working just a couple weeks before I even presented my Master thesis!

Best Part

The best of being an engineer is to have a broad knowledge of different subjects and great problem-solving skills - being practical, logical and finding the most efficient way to do something.

Proud Moments

Starting my career at a small company, with an internship that was poorly paid, and 6 years later working at a company like Oracle with a Senior-level position. This was thanks to my hard work and proactive nature, but I could not have done it without my education as an Engineer.

My Family

I come from a big family that is center of my world. I have an older brother and 3 older sisters, which makes up a family of 7 - not so common nowadays - that is continuously growing with brothers-in-law and nephews. I am currently pregnant of my first child, so about to make a contribution to the family growth :)

Inspirations

My older brother, who is also an Engineer, has always been a role model when it comes to a career. He also achieved high goals with his hard work. My father, the third engineer in the family, is also a business man from who I got my ambition from.

Volunteer Opportunities

I am willing to be contacted by educators for possible speaking engagements in schools or in after school programs or summer camps., I am willing to be contacted about potential job shadowing by interested students., I am willing to be interviewed by interested students via email.

Discovering Optional Career

From a bioengineering course to working in clinical research and now pre-sales. My advice is taking the opportunities that are presented to you and explore new paths that open up from there on. Your most relevant knowledge will always be your previous experience.

Making Connections

Networking was something I initially stayed away from, but naturally came to realize it could allow me to grow and open up new opportunities. I currently work at one of the biggest tech companies in the world, thanks to a connection that I made early in my career.
