Two Sentence Story

I grew up in rural Vermont and it was a stretch to think about completing college. But once I began, I knew I had what it took to finish. I took advantage of summer internship opportunities all over the US, from California to Minnesota, to explore and learn. I started my career out west, and have slowly migrated back to the Northeast, and finally back in my home state of VT. And I am still young; who knows where I will take my skills next!

Close Up

What I Do

I currently work supporting both our design teams and our manufacturing and operations teams to create products that meet and exceed our customer's requests. Those customers are other aerospace companies. Some of the devices we make were designed in the middle of last century! That means I get to work with some pretty interesting pieces of machinery.

Why STEM?

I always loved math and science. As I grew to the end of my high school career, I was struggling to choose just one discipline to study in college. A friend suggested engineering because it providing a little bit of all sorts of things. I have never been disappointed with the variety of things I can do with my training.

School Days

I attended the University of Vermont and focused on Biomedical Engineering as an undergraduate, but went on to get my Masters Degree there with a concentration in Thermal Fluids.

My Day At Work

Testing is one of my favorite things! During college I did both experimental and analytical work, but my career has brought me back to testing at every turn. I do not believe you can understand something fully until you test it to its limits.

Best Part

There are many things that I like about engineering, but at a high level, I enjoy problem solving. There are many ways to approach a good engineering problem, and almost no wrong way. To me problem solving is a very creative activity.

My Advice

Engineering is a terrific discipline with so much breadth. There are few if any limitations to what you can do in this field, or what direction you can take your training and career.

Volunteer Opportunities

I am willing to be contacted by educators for possible speaking engagements in schools or in after school programs or summer camps., I am willing to serve as a sponsor or coach for an engineering club or team., I am willing to serve as science fair judge or other temporary volunteer at a local school., I am willing to host a field trip to my place of employment., I am willing to be contacted about potential job shadowing by interested students., I am willing to be interviewed by interested students via email.
